This accessibility statement applies to The Wallace Collection website that launched on 19 June 2018, with the front-end updated on 29 March 2023: www.wallacecollection.org. Please visit our access page for information on facilities and assistance available in person at the Wallace Collection.

This website is run by The Wallace Collection.

On this website, you can:

change colours, contrast levels and fonts, for example via a browser extension
zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
navigate most of the site using just a keyboard

Our web content is designed to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible and user-friendly.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-Accessible Content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-Compliance With The Accessibility Regulations

1.1.1: Non-Text Content

All images on the website have a text alternative, apart from those linked to events. People using a screen reader cannot access the information associated with these event images, present on the ‘What’s On’ page and associated event pages. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

There is 3D content that some screen readers cannot translate or provide alternative audio content for. This feature also requires users to drag and rotate the 3D models which may be inaccessible to some people. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-Text Content).

There is some 3D content that is incorrectly labelled for screen readers. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3. (Focus Order).

There is 3D content that requires a mouse to interact with, causing difficulty for users who cannot easily drag the mouse while holding the buttons. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.5.1. (Pointer Gestures).

We are presently unable to update these plugins. However, we will soon provide additional supporting content that corresponds to the 3D content on the relevant pages.

1.2.2: Captions / 1.2.3: Audio Description or Media Alternative (Pre-recorded)

Some videos do not have captions or an Audio Described alternative. Where the video is not providing similar information in a different form, this fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.2 (Captions) and/or WCAG 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Pre-recorded).

Since 2021, all new videos uploaded to this website have captions available.

Disproportionate Burden

PDFs and Other Documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on our business such as trustee papers.

We have fixed, or replaced with accessible HTML pages, all PDFs on the website.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish meet accessibility standards.

Historic Content

There are no plans to update all historic content but where possible, and on request, we may be able to provide information in alternative formats.
