The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

1.1.1: Non-Text Content

All images on the website have a text alternative, apart from those linked to events. People using a screen reader cannot access the information associated with these event images, present on the What's On page and associated event pages. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

There is 3D content that some screen readers cannot translate or provide alternative audio content for. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-Text Content), 2.4.3 (Focus Order) and 2.5.1 (Pointer Gestures). We will provide additional supporting content corresponding to the 3D content on the relevant pages.

1.2.1: Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded) / 1.2.2: Captions

We have embedded transcripts onto our site for some videos that are not accessible to all users, depending on the screen reading software they are using. We are identifying fixes for this so our embedded transcripts are available to all users.

Some videos on the website are used for decorative purposes and do not contain information essential to understanding the page content. We are reviewing whether audio descriptions are required for these videos on a case by case basis.

The content is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Some older content on this website may not meet accessibility standards. There are no plans to update all historic content but where possible, and on request, we may be able to provide information in alternative formats.

PDFs and Other Documents

We run accessibility checks on PDFs published to this website. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish are checked against accessibility standards.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We are working to resolve the issues listed above. A full audit against WCAG 2.2 AA will be carried out on our new website prior to launch, as part of a website redevelopment project currently underway which is due to replace this website in early 2027.

This statement was prepared on 21 September 2020 by the Wallace Collection's Digital and Audiences team using a self-assessment. We also worked with a third party, Numiko, to implement and test accessibility fixes. The statement was last reviewed on 12 August 2026.

This website was tested in May 2026 by the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) as part of the government's public sector accessibility monitoring programme. The test covered a sample of seven pages against WCAG 2.2 AA criteria, using a mixture of simple manual checks and automated tests. Manual checks included using each page without a mouse, viewing the page at different zoom settings, and simulating viewing the page on a small screen. Automated tests were completed using Axe.
